Aspheric LensPrecision optical compoments
Aspheric lens or asphere is known for its ability in eliminating spherical aberrations and improving focusing and collimating accuracy while maintaining a simple one-element structure. Aspheric lenses can be an effective alternative to multi-element systems by reducing weight, size and cost in many applications ranging from barcode scanning to precision sighting. .
An aspheric lens is a lens whose surface profile resembles that of a bell curve, where the
curvature of the lens flattens toward the edge of the lens. This complex surface curvature can remove spherical aberration and decrease other optical aberrations seen with a simple lens. In many instances, a single aspheric lens can replace a more highly complex multi-lens system. Choosing this replacement lens can result in a lighter, smaller, and probably less expensive system, or device.
An aspheric lens is a lens whose surfaces have a profile that is neither a portion of a sphere nor of a circular cylinder. Aspheric lens surface curve varies from the center to the edge with no fixed radius.
Alpha Optics supplies various types of aspheric lenses on a made-to-print basis.
Precision molding
Precision molding enables the mass production of aspherical lenses. These high performance aspherical lenses are often used in optical elements which eliminate monochromatic aberrations (e.g. spherical aberration) and hence lead to a better overall image quality.
In addition, aspherical lenses can be used to replace a multi-spherical element assembly, which leads to overall weight reduction and therefore a more compact design.
Due to the unique advantages associated with the use of aspherical lenses, the overall lens system has improved quality as well as reduced weight and size.Other benefits include: strong consultative support from application team, customised lenses produced according to customers' requirements, high accuracy because of reduction in weight and a more compact design, improved collimating accuracy
CNC-machining
Aspherical lenses can be produced by CNC-machining for smaller quantities and prototypes.
Due to the unique surface profile, high performance aspherical lenses used in optical elements eliminate monochromatic aberrations (e.g. spherical aberration) and lead to a better overall image quality. They are increasingly used to replace a multi- spherical element assembly, thereby combining weight reduction and allowing for a more compact design.
There are two key advantages associated with the use of aspherical elements. First, an improvement in the quality of the complete lens system. Second, an overall reduction in the weight and size of the final product. Other benefits include: higher level of achievable transmission due to a reduction in the number of back reflections, reduction in the temperature increase in the case of several KW-light transmissions, decrease in the level of subsurface damage due to advanced techniques, improved collimating accuracy.
optical replicationThe technique of aspherical optical replication is one of the techniques of producing optical aspherical surfaces with high efficiency and low cost put forward in 1980’s. It is a technique producing aspherical lenses by moving surface shape. A surface with a high precision is transferred from an aspherical optic (the mold) to a surface of a spherical one (the substrate) with the help of release and adhesive, at the condition of maintaining its optical quality. During this process, the spherical surface is changed into an aspherical one. Compared with other methods of making aspherical lenses, this technique has outstanding advantages. Firstly, it needs only simple equipment; the optical surface of the substrate doesn’t need to be polished, which reduces the producing cost greatly and promotes the efficiency of the production, thus overcome the weakness of making aspherical lenses one by one. Secondly, the surface of the substrate is spherical, which can be easily made; the duplicating layer is very thin, so the replica has good environmental endurance. In addition, a mold can be used time after time; it’s consistence of the parameters is good, and this makes the technique of replication applicable for the mass-production of the segmented mirrors used for putting together and lenses with same standard.
